Sales To Military Personnel Bright Spot In Weak Economy
Centennial CO – October 29, 2008 – Leading Points Corporation president, Kevin T. K. Sullivan, Lieutenant Colonel U. S. Army (retired) said today that sales to military personnel might be the one market sector remaining unaffected by the current slowdown in retail sales.
“Consumer confidence remains high within the ranks of the military,” said Sullivan. “Sales levels within the military exchange retail stores such as the Army PX and Air Force BX. Military personnel, in general, seem to be unaffected by the cutbacks, pay concessions and layoffs that are putting the brakes on spending everywhere else.”
The four branches of the military, Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, each operate retail stores located at military facilities both in the United States and worldwide. For those stationed overseas, these stores are often the only source of familiar American goods. The Army and Air Force stores operating under the AAFES Command, have worldwide sales approaching $10 billion. Navy and Marine Corps stores account for a somewhat smaller sales volume.
Only military personnel and their families as well as veterans have access to the exchange facilities. The total market reach is said to be in excess of 30 million persons with $2 trillion in annual purchasing power.
Leading Points was established in 2004 to act as agents and sales representatives for companies desiring to sell to the powerful military market. The company is located in Centennial, Colorado.
